The GLoG is in me now!

I love multiclassing and easily hackable OSR games! I especially love interesting magic systems. Goblin Laws of Gaming (GLoG) excels in all of these areas. Arnold K. invented it: https://goblinpunch.blogspot.com/2016/05/the-glog.html

I’ve been looking for a system to hack into my own ruleset. I’ve re-written iterations of my game in Runequest, Fate Core, Strands of Fate, BRP, WRM, Black Hack, Mörk Borg, and several systems I tried creating from the ground up. The last system I created was finally getting good. Now that I know about GLoG I will be fusing the GLoG into the living flesh of my own system to create a monstrous progeny.

My system is called Demons of Light. It’s 2d10 roll under, attributes are 3-18, skills are roll under x-in-10. Players start as level 0 peasants. There are minor benefits from having witch blood, but there are no fantasy races. Everyone is either Human or Human with a bit of old magic in their veins. Elves and dwarves are nowhere to be seen.

The power curve is very low at the start. Magic is mostly illusions and trickery. Long dusty rituals that affect luck and probability or summon intangible spirits. No magic missiles or fireballs or flight while still mortal. But those intangible spirits can make deals. There are ancient cults willing to initiate you into the secrets of the cosmos. Once you ascend and become a demon, or immortal, or god the power level spikes. Now you can teleport and fly and disintegrate your enemies, but so can the other immortals. Ordinary humans live their mundane lives in the light and a small handful of demi-gods and saints fight desperate wars in the shadows.

Think Wuxia cultivation meets Berserk, meets Medieval demonology. Kinda like Lord of the Mysteries but with less Lovecraft and more Arthur Machen.

This is the mandatory intro post. TTRPG content to follow….
